Job Description: Accountant (Temporary Role)

We partner with Europe to empower and enhance a sustainable energy market. Located in Luxembourg, we host Europe's leading trading platform (e-CAT) for cross-border transmission capacity, auctioning available transmission rights on EU borders on behalf of TSOs.

Since October 1, 2018, JAO has been the Single Allocation Platform (SAP) for European TSOs, providing accounting, contracting, reporting, and project support services.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Accountant for a temporary position to support our accounting functions. Reporting to the Head of Financial Controlling and Accounting, you will collaborate with the Controlling department to manage accounting processes, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with standards.

The role involves supporting team members, training new accountants, and representing the company externally. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, solution-focused, autonomous, and communicative, with excellent English skills.

This fixed-term contract lasts up to 18 months, covering maternity/parental leave.

Key responsibilities
  1. Manage overall accounting activities.
  2. Collaborate with finance teams, CFO, and external parties.
  3. Assess risks, ensure internal controls, and advise on standards.
  4. Support internal control compliance and staff development.
  5. Process payments, bank transfers, and reconciliations.
  6. Handle bookkeeping, fixed assets, prepayments, and accruals.
  7. Prepare VAT returns, tax declarations, and manage tax issues.
  8. Coordinate period-end closing activities and account reconciliations.
  9. Serve as the point of contact for external and internal stakeholders.
  10. Participate in financial projects and process improvements.
  11. Assist with audits and reconciliation processes.
Candidate profile
  • Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field (minimum 3 years post-A-Level).
  • Relevant accounting experience, including audit, billing, or controlling.
  • Knowledge of GAAP; SAP-FICO experience is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
  • Open-minded, proactive, and team-oriented.
