Job Description:

Support us full-time at the site Bonn in our core research facilities department.

We are seeking two individuals with a high motivation to work in a service-oriented team with strong expertise in bioimaging analysis and programming.

You will become part of an inspiring team of experts in neurobiology, microscopy imaging, drug discovery, and data science with the common goal of finding new therapies to cure neurodegenerative diseases.

As member of IDAF and expert in image and data analysis you will be part of the core research facilities supporting scientists in their work. This includes counselling during setup of experiments for robust statistical analysis, extracting data from images produced by a large variety of microscopes, as well as data analysis on a broad range of research data. You will always be at the cutting edge of scientific literature to identify promising new technologies in the fast-moving field of image analysis, data analysis, and artificial intelligence and to develop innovative methods for biomedical image recognition and data analysis.

As you will be involved in a variety of projects, you will grow your expertise in applied data science and signal processing. Working in a stimulating research environment, you will get in touch with world-leading experts in neuroscience leveraging the latest biotechnological methods such as high content screening microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, and laboratory automation technologies.

We are seeking a data scientist for our Image and Data Analysis Facility (IDAF) to join the team of the Core Research Facilities and Services (CRFS) at the DZNE in Bonn. The successful candidate will work for the CRFS, and support the provision of image and data services to the scientists at the DZNE, as well as develop services further in close collaboration with the CRFS staff, imaging communities and technology developers. The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Supporting and training scientists in the use of image analysis software.
  • Developing and implementing image and data analysis solutions for scientists on an individual basis.
  • Identifying recurring needs and challenges of scientists and developing solutions that can be established as a general service.
  • Keeping yourself up-to-date on image and data analysis tools and developments to supply the best possible service and suggest state-of-the-art analysis methods to our scientists.
  • Supporting our other core research facilities in larger strategic projects.

We are seeking a team player, who is positive, bright, and ready to take ownership and responsibility for the tasks. The ideal candidate should:

  • Have relevant professional experience in data science, statistics, mathematical modelling or similar. Ideally with an advanced life-science degree (Ph.D.).
  • Be able to combine in-depth image and data analysis skills with scientific information and requirements to provide optimal solutions for different stakeholders.
  • Bring experience in image and data analysis, preferably in a scientific environment, with proven ability to effectively interact with different stakeholders on an interdisciplinary level.
  • Be able to communicate and present your solutions in a comprehensible way to stakeholders untrained in data science.
  • Experience in computational biology and programming, preferably in Python.
  • Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Confidence in cluster computing and high-performance computing.

A high level of computational literacy is required. Experience of working in a high-paced professional, academic environment is advantageous. The successful candidate is a motivated self-starter with a proven ability to manage projects and delivery independently. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and the ability to understand and incorporate scientific information. A high standard of written and spoken English is preferable.

You might also have:

  • Experience in in-Memory-Driven Computing
  • Understanding of advanced microscopy imaging techniques
