Director of Operations, Ocean Freight Germany (m/f/d) for our Hamburg office:

Your Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute the overall strategic vision for the Ocean Freight Operations across Germany, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Lead and manage the ocean freight departments, ensuring consistent quality and efficient service delivery across all locations.
  • Manage the operational budget for ocean freight operations and collaborate with senior management in financial planning.
  • Establish and monitor profit ratios in collaboration with the Ocean Freight Management team.
  • Set strategic objectives for the department and lead the team to achieve them.
  • Conduct performance reviews for the leadership team and key operational staff, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with company standards.

Operational Leadership:

  • Oversee the operational performance of all ocean freight teams across Germany, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Supervise the operational budget, contributing to financial planning and ensuring cost efficiency across all departments.
  • Ensure compliance with both internal and external operational regulations and accurate documentation for all activities.
  • Establish, track, and review Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all locations, ensuring high performance across all operations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate service delivery while meeting both customer and internal deadlines.

Customer Focus & Business Development:

  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customers and stakeholders across Germany.
  • Drive the growth of the ocean freight customer portfolio, ensuring a focus on both existing and new customer relationships.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to identify opportunities for new business and further enhance service delivery.

Innovation & Process Optimization:

  • Lead initiatives to streamline and optimize processes within the Ocean Freight Operations, focusing on both cost reduction and productivity enhancement.
  • Leverage technology and IT tools to improve operational efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by regularly reviewing operational workflows and identifying areas for innovation and enhancement.

Talent Development & Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the senior management and operational teams within the Ocean Freight department across all locations.
  • Ensure that leadership pipelines are well maintained, preparing the next generation of leaders within the team.
  • Design and implement development plans for the team, ensuring that skill levels and capabilities continue to grow in line with company objectives.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all KPIs are met consistently across all locations, aligning with customer expectations and business goals.
  • Ensure timely and efficient service delivery across all locations, guaranteeing compliance with both internal and external deadlines.
  • Oversee the regular review and improvement of process flows across all operations, ensuring efficient and effective performance.
  • Organize and facilitate internal system and process training for staff to ensure operational excellence.
  • Ensure correct and timely billing practices are followed for all shipments and services rendered.
  • Prepare and deliver reports as required for internal teams and customers, ensuring accurate, timely, and strategic insights.

Job Requirements

Your profile:

  • 10-15 years of experience in Ocean Freight, with at least 5-8 years at a senior management level overseeing national or multi-location teams.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with additional qualifications in supply chain management or logistics preferred.
  • Extensive managerial experience in operations, with a proven track record in leading large teams and managing complex, multi-location operations.
  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills, with the ability to align operational goals with company-wide objectives.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to evolving industry policies, procedures, and market demands.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both German and English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on operational efficiency, cost control, and continuous improvement.
