Job Description:

thyssenkrupp is an international industrial and technology group with around 98,000 employees. In the fiscal year 2023/2024, the company generated sales of €35 billion in 47 countries. Its business activities are bundled in five segments: Automotive Technology, Decarbon Technologies, Materials Services, Steel Europe and Marine Systems. With extensive technology know-how, the businesses develop innovative solutions for the challenges of the future, especially in the fields of climate protection, the energy transition, digital transformation in the industry and mobility of the future.

The Head of IT Strategy has a pivotal leadership position within the newly established CIO Office. The role is responsible for defining, shaping, and institutionalizing the strategic IT direction for the enterprise. Rather than executing isolated transformation initiatives, this position focuses on creating a long-term IT strategy and governance framework that enables sustainable, scalable, and business-aligned growth across the entire group.

Key responsibilities:

  • Enterprise IT Strategy Development: Define and drive a comprehensive IT strategy that aligns with business objectives, digital ambitions, and financial targets.
  • Investment & Portfolio Governance: Establish strategic governance models to guide IT investments, enabling data-driven portfolio decisions and maximizing value creation.
  • Governance Frameworks & Compliance: Design and oversee IT policies, compliance controls, and risk governance mechanisms that enhance operational resilience.
  • Technology Operating Model Leadership: Lead the evolution of the IT operating model, balancing centralized governance with business unit flexibility.
  • Performance Management: Develop and implement KPI frameworks and dashboards to track strategic impact, IT maturity, and value realization.

Strategic Impact:

  • Business-Driven IT Governance: Shift governance from a controlling role to a strategic enabler of business innovation and agility.
  • Enterprise-Wide Strategic Alignment: Ensure that all IT initiatives, investments, and operating models are strategically integrated across segments.
  • Informed Decision-Making: Introduce structured steering committees and architecture boards to ensure informed, enterprise-wide prioritization.
  • Risk Reduction & Policy Coherence: Promote standardization and compliance to reduce operational inconsistencies and IT-related risks.

We are seeking a visionary and conceptual thinker, not just an executor. The ideal candidate brings:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business IT, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in defining and operationalizing enterprise-wide IT strategies, not just managing project portfolios or agile transformations.
  • Strong background in IT governance models, enterprise architecture alignment, and policy design.
  • A consultative, structured approach with the ability to engage at board level and challenge business priorities from a strategic IT perspective.
  • Sound understanding of strategic investment governance and long-term IT capability building.
  • Proven success as an agile Product Owner, Flight Levels Architect, or OKR Champion.
  • Confident and persuasive communication across hierarchies, including top management levels.
  • An attractive compensation package commensurate with the importance of the job, comprising a fixed salary, a performance bonus and a long-term incentive
  • A modern, flexible company pension plan with high employer contributions that utilizes the opportunities of the capital market (while providing guaranteed minimum interest)
  • A good work-life balance due to flexible working time models and the possibility to work from home
  • Free parking on the company premises / subsidized parking in the immediate vicinity of the workplace
  • Good public transport connections
  • Regular healthcare offers through our company physicians / Medical Center, e.g. skin cancer screening, flu vaccinations
  • In-company child daycare center on the company premises
  • An extensive range of training courses, e.g. via the thyssenkrupp Academy and the Group's further training center at Haus Rheinberg

Collegial cooperation and respect in our dealings with one another - that's what you'll find at our company for over 200 years. If this is as important to you as it is to us, then apply now!

We value diversity and therefore welcome all applications, irrespective of gender, nationality, ethnic and social background, religion and beliefs, disability, age, or sexual orientation and identity.
