Led by Prof. Rainer Leupers, ICE specializes in R&D in embedded and cyber-physical hardware/software system design, including wireless communications, automotive electronics, AI accelerators, and cyber-security.

ICE collaborates globally with industry partners and has successfully transferred technologies to semiconductor vendors, system houses, and EDA companies. It is funded by national agencies like DFG, Cyberagency, and BMBF, and participates in European projects such as HiPEAC. The institute has spawned several successful spin-offs, including Cadis, Axys, LISATek, Silexica, MachineWare, and RooflineAI.

Position Details:

  • Contribute to ICE's R&D projects in embedded processor architectures, compiler technologies, multicore HW/SW design tools, virtual prototyping, ASIP and SoC design, neuromorphic computing for ML, RISC-V, and hardware security.
  • Engage with European and international academic and industry partners.
  • Participate in project management and organize events.
  • Assist in teaching activities, including lectures, labs, and seminars.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields with excellent results. For PostDocs, a PhD is required, preferably from a leading international research institution.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux-based C++ software development.
  • Beneficial skills include processor/multicore architectures, electronic design automation, hardware security, compilers, RISC-V, SystemC, and HW architecture simulation.
  • Excellent communication skills, team-oriented, with an entrepreneurial attitude as a plus.
  • Proficiency in English; German language skills are beneficial.

Compensation is based on TV-L 13 for PhD candidates and TV-L 14 for PostDocs. RWTH promotes gender equality and encourages applications from women and disabled individuals.
