Requirements

The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner within the Environmental Health and Safety Department promotes a safe work environment for all by focusing on health promotion, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from occupational hazards. The incumbent provides an integrated approach to delivering quality occupational health medical surveillance and clinical services, such as health hazard assessment, injury/illness investigation, vaccines, bloodwork, and ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide nursing care in an occupational health setting, including first aid, emergency response, assessing and monitoring environmental hazards for specific employee groups, promoting employee wellness, and risk-based prevention programs.
  • Ensure employees are categorized correctly under Occupational Risk Exposure Categories to determine appropriate screening and vaccinations.
  • Conduct and ensure completion of OSHA-required medical surveillance activities, including medical clearances, vaccinations, and routine examinations.
  • Diagnose patients, develop treatment plans, and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Stay informed on OSHA, NIOSH, HHS, CDC, and ACIP policies and guidelines, making recommendations for program revisions as needed.
  • Support emergency preparedness, response, and recovery projects in collaboration with the Office of Emergency Preparedness.
  • Respond to public health emergencies and carry out emergency duties effectively.
Work Interactions

This position reports to the Executive Director, Environmental Health and Safety, with one direct report, the Occupational Health Coordinator. It involves close collaboration with EH&S Managers, Public Health, Emergency Management, Risk and Planning, and Facilities Management.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Masters of Science MSN
  • APRN License from the District of Columbia
  • Three (3) years of experience in occupational health or emergency room nursing
  • Knowledge of occupational health nursing principles, ethics, and techniques
  • Ability to perform blood draws and administer injections
  • High integrity and discretion handling confidential information
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Experience in teaching and training medical and non-medical personnel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Management or supervisory experience (minimum 1 year)
  • Prior experience in an occupational health setting
  • Knowledge of public health emergency preparedness, NIMS, ICS, CDC capabilities, and best practices
Work Mode and Compensation

Pay Range: $80,429.00 - $157,238.93, determined by qualifications, experience, and university needs.
