Oracle Data Centre Technician

The Oracle Data Centre Technician acts as the technical liaison between technology teams and the Data Centre environment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting infrastructure issues, creating and maintaining documentation, and understanding all aspects of supported equipment. The role requires independent decision-making and attention to detail.

This position involves working on a 24/7 shift rota system 365 days per year.

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory background checks.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.
2. Recent graduates and gap year students demonstrating interest, knowledge, and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
3. 2-5 years of experience in IT Infrastructure support and server administration in a mid-sized environment (200-1000+ servers), including data center M&E equipment.
4. Experience working in mission-critical operations.
5. Physical ability to lift up to 25kg and work in cramped or elevated spaces.
6. Understanding of data center design, electrical and cooling systems, and airflow management.
7. Experience with rack and stack equipment, commissioning new racks.
8. Strong structured cabling skills with fiber and copper.

Systems & Hardware Expertise:

1. Systems administration (Linux and/or Windows Servers, especially command line).
2. Hardware repair, diagnosis, and break/fix.
3. Networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, troubleshooting).
4. IT hardware concepts (RAID, SAN, x86 architecture, SCSI, FC, Ethernet, iLO).
5. Operating system installation and configuration.
6. Core OS services (SSH, Telnet, RDP, FTP, NFS, DNS, DHCP, serial communication).

Role Responsibilities:

1. Serve as a data center SME liaison to technical and non-technical teams.
2. Address customer problems with timely technical solutions.
3. Participate in installation, monitoring, maintenance, and support of server hardware and software.
4. Perform system board level repairs and fault diagnosis to SLAs.
5. Plan and commission new rack positions and whitespaces.
6. Install structured cabling as required.
7. Follow health and safety regulations and procedures.
