TUM Asia doctoral candidate scholarship position: "Digital Twin based Lean Construction Logistics for High-Density-Good Supply and Disposal in Urban Environments"
About
TUM Asia Graduate College in Singapore focuses on research in new technologies and processes for passenger and cargo transport in future cities. With urban populations growing, there's a need to reduce resource usage, pollution, and improve urban living quality, leading to changes in city planning, construction, and management towards sustainability.
We seek a doctoral candidate for research on:
Digital Twin based Lean Construction Logistics for High-Density-Good Supply and Disposal in Urban Environments
This project aims to develop an innovative, scalable logistics system for high-density goods (e.g., concrete, machinery) to supply and dispose of urban construction sites efficiently. It explores digital technologies like RFID for tracking, lean logistics strategies to minimize trucks and packaging, and model-based systems engineering for system architecture. A higher-level digital twin will be created using simulations, live data, and AI to optimize construction progress and material demand estimates, demonstrating its viability and economic benefits.
Supervising Professor
The research will be supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johannes Fottner at TUM. The position is funded by DAAD and TUM Asia, offering a full-time, fixed-term role at TUM Singapore, with opportunities for time in Munich and possibly a joint TUM-NTU degree. The scholarship initially lasts one year, renewable based on performance, up to 4 years.
Start date: ASAP, ideally August 1.
