Job Purpose

The Aldi Business Development Director is McBride’s lead commercial & business development representative towards the Global Aldi Group.

The purpose of this role is to lead & coordinate all aspects of the relation with Aldi, both short & long-term, both tactical and strategic. The Aldi BDD will initially lead a virtual team including key account managers, sales coordinators, and team members from technical, marketing, finance, logistics & Customer Experience organizations.

The virtual team leadership is expected to evolve into a mix of direct reports and indirect team members.

The Aldi Business Development Director is our senior point of contact towards the Global procurement team and is supported by his/her manager, other divisional MDs, and sometimes the CEO. He/she is the main internal contact and knowledge source on the Aldi Group.

Your responsibilities will be

  • Build and lead McBride’s cross-functional team that interacts with Aldi, implementing effective meeting and review structures, fostering transparency, and ensuring stakeholders are kept informed through reporting and communication.
  • Negotiate multi-year contract frameworks on behalf of McBride, supporting regional and divisional negotiations, and creating transparency and consistency across countries and stakeholders.
  • Develop understanding of Aldi’s organization, strategies, sustainability approach, and key priorities, sharing this knowledge with McBride teams to ensure success.
  • Build and maintain a network within Aldi, establishing linkages across functions and levels, ensuring McBride’s presence at Aldi global sourcing and regional offices.
  • Create a strategic multi-year account plan focusing on growth and innovation to position McBride as Aldi’s leading global homecare supplier.
  • Oversee and expand growth project pipelines, anticipate upcoming tenders, and coordinate innovation positioning.
  • Develop KPI frameworks to track revenue, margins, operational excellence, and sustainability performance.
  • Coordinate efforts towards Aldi’s optimization initiatives, including portfolio and capacity optimization, logistics cost reduction, and sustainable offerings.

Skills and education we are looking for

  • Understanding of FMCG and retail markets.
  • Ability to build strong portfolio understanding across categories and technical depth.
  • Skills in strategic planning, financial analysis, contract formulation, logistics, project management, SAP, and regulatory knowledge.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business or relevant technical field.
  • FMCG experience and 10+ years of senior B2B commercial work experience.
  • Proven team leadership and cross-functional experience.
  • Willingness to travel frequently across Europe, USA, and Asia.
  • English language skills; German is a plus.
  • Location flexibility, with preference for UK or Germany.
