WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Back-End Web Applications Developer – European Commission. We are seeking an experienced Back-End Developer to join our client’s Information Systems team, supporting digital solutions in public health, food safety, and internal market domains. The role involves developing, maintaining, and optimizing core applications and systems supporting health, food safety, and regulatory initiatives across Europe. You will create secure, scalable, and high-performing back-end applications aligned with our mission to protect human health, animal welfare, and food safety within Europe.

YOUR TASKS:

1. Develop back-end web applications, implementing core business logic.
2. Design and optimize applications for speed and scalability.
3. Develop APIs for system integration.
4. Implement security and data protection measures to ensure compliance and confidentiality.
5. Participate in designing scalable software solutions.
6. Write clean, functional code and ensure code integrity.
7. Analyze data, processes, and code to troubleshoot issues and improve systems.
8. Test and fix bugs to ensure high functionality.
9. Create technical documentation for maintenance and updates.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Proven 7+ years in back-end development with Java (JDK8+), JEE (7+), XML, and SOAP web services (e.g., JAX-WS).
• Strong proficiency in Oracle RDBMS.
• At least 5 years of experience with Git or SVN, especially with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo).
• Understanding of web development cycle, programming techniques, and optimization.
• Experience implementing security and data protection in high-compliance environments.
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills, capable of working in an international, multicultural environment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• Location: Brussels, Belgium, with home-working options or onsite within 2 hours, up to 5 days/month.
