The Cluster of Excellence “Contestations of the Liberal Script (SCRIPTS)” is a research consortium analyzing contemporary controversies about liberal democracy and the market economy. The term “liberal script” relates to ideas and institutional prescriptions about societal organization based on individual self-determination. The main goal of SCRIPTS is to understand why the liberal model of order is in crisis despite its achievements.
SCRIPTS has been operating since [year missing] and is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) until [end year missing]. It is hosted by Freie Universität Berlin and includes eight major Berlin-based research institutes. The research teams consist of doctoral researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and professors from social, political, and area studies. SCRIPTS maintains global connections with research institutes, knowledge exchange partners, political and cultural organizations, and civil society actors. It also hosts renowned visiting scholars from around the world.
The Quality Management and Diversity Unit supports researchers with project proposals, publications, hiring processes, and monitors internal fund allocation procedures. It develops measures to ensure equal participation, including integrating researchers from underrepresented backgrounds and recognizing diverse research perspectives. The research assistant positions focus on academic publication and diversity management.
