The Institute of Chemical Reaction Engineering at TUHH investigates the dynamic behavior of solid catalysts in catalytic reactors. Catalysts are dynamic systems and change their chemical and geometrical structure, electronic properties, active centers, adsorbates and consequently the reaction kinetics depending on the chemical environment, temperature, pressure and local flow conditions. In order to elucidate the catalyst dynamics and local reaction kinetics and to develop the kinetic models that are central to reactor design, new measurement methods are under developed at the ICRT. The novel tools allow measurements of concentration, temperature and spectroscopy profiles in catalytic reactors. However, the creation of such a kinetic model is time-consuming and technically difficult, as many reactions are complex. The aim of a doctoral project is to significantly accelerate the development of kinetic models on the basis of artificial intelligence (AI) (a few weeks instead of years) and to research and further develop improved measurement methods and instruments. We are looking for a PhD student with an interest in heterogeneous catalysis, catalytic reactors, spectroscopy (FTIR) and mathematics. Previous experience in one of the above fields is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
