Research Associate (f/m/d) in the Field of Energy Economics, Karlsruhe

We are seeking a Research Associate to work on interdisciplinary projects focused on techno-economic analyses for decarbonizing global energy systems. The role emphasizes sector-coupled energy system analysis and robust infrastructure design.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Developing high-resolution geographical models to analyze energy demand and renewable energy potentials.
  2. Optimizing the design and operation of energy conversion, transport, and storage infrastructures.
  3. Creating methods to assess the security of supply in multi-energy systems considering weather and climate influences.
  4. Developing approaches to utilize flexibility in energy systems for secure deployment and expansion planning.
  5. Publishing research findings in high-impact journals.

This position offers the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.

Minimum Requirements:
  • University degree (master's or diploma) in industrial engineering, business administration, process engineering, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Interest in quantitative energy analyses.
  • Interest in solving large linear and mixed-integer optimization problems.
  • Knowledge or experience with computer-aided modeling and operations research methods is advantageous.
  • Professional aptitude, high commitment, good self-organization, and proficiency in English.
Desirable:
  • Domain knowledge (not mandatory).

The salary follows category 13 TV-L, depending on professional and personal qualifications.
