Jobbeschreibung

The Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for evaluating and managing individuals with behavioral, mental, and emotional health problems within the primary care setting. The setting is primarily with a transitioning Afghan population, so experience with trauma-informed care and displaced individuals is essential. Additionally, this position involves developing and implementing general wellness programs to support beneficiaries.

Key responsibilities

1. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions
2. Provide social services, behavioral health, and addiction medicine services
3. Work directly with primary health care providers to identify and treat mental disorders and psychosocial difficulties, including the detection of at-risk patients and harm prevention
4. Provide consultative services to patients referred by primary care providers
5. Determine patient care plans in collaboration with the primary care team
6. Maintain accurate patient records and track treatment plans
7. Educate the primary care team on mood disorders (such as depression and anxiety) and provide tools and techniques to manage these disorders, including anger management and family issues
8. Teach patients, families, and staff about prevention methods and treatment options
9. Participate actively in day-to-day office activities, meetings, task force groups, and mass casualty exercises as required

Experience Required

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in short-term, solution-focused counseling with individuals, children, families, and couples
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with an Afghan population
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with psychotherapy groups

Education Required

• Current and unrestricted license (LPC, LMFT, LMHC, LISW, LCSW, or similar) or an authorizing document from any US State, District of Columbia, or US Territory to provide healthcare within scope of practice
• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work

Physical Requirements

• Work is typically performed in an interior/office environment
• Sitting and standing for prolonged periods
• Bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 lbs

Other Qualifications

• Fluency in Dari or Pashto (both preferred)
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively
• This position is unaccompanied and requires relocation to Kaiserslautern, Germany
• A valid passport is required prior to relocation and must be maintained during your stay
