We are seeking an experienced Lead System Engineer with deep expertise in cloud migration and infrastructure management to join our growing IT team. This role is pivotal in assessing on-premises environments, crafting strategic migration plans, and leading the execution of cloud transitions to Microsoft Azure. You will be responsible for guiding teams, optimizing workloads, and ensuring secure, high-performance environments in the cloud. If you are a strong communicator, problem-solver, and technical leader with hands-on experience in complex migrations—this role is for you.

• Lead and execute cloud migration projects using Azure Migrate and related tools, including rehosting, re-platforming, and refactoring strategies.
• Assess on-premises infrastructure to determine cloud readiness and develop tailored migration roadmaps.
• Oversee the deployment and management of Azure networking components including VNets, NSGs, Application Gateways, and enterprise-scale landing zones.
• Guide the migration of virtual machines, databases, and file shares with minimal downtime, ensuring issue resolution during replication, configuration, and post-migration phases.
• Optimize workloads for cost-efficiency, scalability, and performance using tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and auto-scaling.
• Supervise cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers throughout the migration lifecycle.
• Create and maintain comprehensive migration playbooks, runbooks, and progress reporting for stakeholders.
• Stay current with Azure platform updates and recommend innovative tools or process improvements.
• Provide post-migration technical support, ensuring environments remain secure, resilient, and compliant with best practices.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders of all levels.
• Take ownership of project timelines, prioritize tasks effectively, and maintain a detail-oriented mindset.

This is you

• 5+ years of experience in system engineering or cloud infrastructure roles, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership capacity.
• Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, especially in cloud migration projects.
• Strong expertise in on-premises technologies such as VMware vCenter, Hyper-V, Windows & Linux administration, and Active Directory (DNS, DHCP, GPO, DC).
• Solid experience with Azure services including VMs, Update Manager, SQL Servers, NSGs, vNETs, Application Groups, ExpressRoute, VPNs, Storage Accounts, and Azure Monitor.
• Familiarity with VMWare HCX and tools like Azure Migrate.
• Experience with cloud governance and security using Defender 365, Entra ID, and Firewall configurations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective leadership, interpersonal, and communication abilities.
• Fluency in English (German is a plus).

Nice to Have

• Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305).
• Experience managing hybrid cloud environments.
• Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell or Bash.
• Exposure to virtual desktop infrastructure (Azure Virtual Desktop, Horizon, Citrix).
• Experience creating automation workflows for migration and post-deployment optimization.
