Salary level: To be discussed

Start date: 01.10.2024, fixed until 30.09.2026 (fixed-term contract per Section 2 of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz)

Scope of work: Full-time position, part-time suitable

Your responsibilities

Conduct academic services related to the project. Opportunity for independent research and academic qualification pursuits. Focus on developing serial crystallography at X-ray free-electron lasers and applying ultrafast spectroscopic tools to study flavoenzymes. Typical tasks include:

  • Design of flavoenzyme constructs, recombinant expression, protein purification
  • Conducting serial femtosecond crystallography experiments, including at XFELs
  • Performing ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy and data analysis
  • Managing projects and teamwork at XFEL facilities
  • Publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences
  • Preparing grant applications for funding
Your profile

A university degree and doctorate in a relevant field such as physics, biophysics, or structural biology. Required expertise includes:

  • Recombinant flavoprotein expression, purification, and characterization
  • Ultrafast laser apparatus operation
  • Transient absorption measurements of photoactive proteins
  • Laboratory safety and teamwork
  • Programming skills in Python or similar
  • English proficiency in speaking and writing
  • Experience in scientific presentation and mentoring
