Innovation Cup 2021: Great Minds Come Together

The Innovation Cup, in its eleventh year, brings together a promising new generation of academic talents from life sciences, material sciences, data sciences, and business administration with the company's senior management, researchers, and accomplished retirees. This meeting of minds serves as a creative and innovative platform aimed at advancing science and technology.

All travel, accommodation, and food expenses will be paid by the company. In case of travel restrictions, the Innovation Cup may be held virtually.

Project Focus

The Oncology team will work on innovative approaches for targeted cancer treatment using small molecules or proteins.

Who can apply?

We invite advanced students in life sciences, chemistry, physics, computer sciences, and business administration worldwide to apply. We will select 30 students:

• Sciences: Postgraduate students pursuing a PhD in biology, chemistry, medicine, physics, biotech, bioinformatics, biochemistry, pharmacy, informatics, computer science, data science, engineering, or related fields. Postdocs are also eligible.
• Business: Advanced MBA students or recent graduates with an interest in the pharmaceutical business and a background in life sciences.

The program is not open to healthcare professionals.

How it works

During a one-week Summer Camp, 30 selected postgraduate students will attend in-depth presentations on the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, delivered by our management, scientists, and external experts. Participants will work in small teams to develop innovative ideas addressing scientific challenges and turn them into comprehensive business plans, receiving coaching from experienced mentors.

You will learn about R&D processes within the industry, from discovery to market, and evaluate your ideas from technical and business perspectives. Teams will present their plans to a grand jury composed of top management and external consultants. The best plan will win the Innovation Cup and a cash prize of EUR 20,000, with EUR 5,000 for the runner-up. Networking opportunities include a conference with alumni, and top teams may be offered positions in our company.
