This position is office-based, hybrid working policy in our European offices - Munich, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dublin, and London.

As a Senior Backend Engineer (d/f/m), you play an important role in a mission-based team within the Personio Engineering organization, solving the team's most complex projects. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you are coding hands-on and supporting your team members solving technical challenges. Additionally, you will take part in interviewing, finding the best future talent for Personio.

Role Responsibilities: What you'll do

• Taking responsibility for delivery of larger in-team projects that may have a high level of uncertainty and risk, with a pragmatic approach to estimation, scoping and planning
• Following and promoting best practices to solve higher complexity challenges by building reliable, performant and elegant solutions that are easy to work with
• Proactively extending your scope to the team level when needed to ensure healthy operations and successful delivery
• Acting towards company's priorities and strategy, and engages in productive conversations about business impact of their work
• Giving useful and effective feedback, actively seeking to improve the entire team by regularly sharing knowledge and mentoring others
• Stepping up, actively driving team topics and supporting other team members
• Communicating with cross-functional stakeholders and leadership, targeted for the audience
• Participating in activities within the larger org, and performing actions that positively influence groups of people

Role Requirements: What you need to succeed

• 5+ years of software development experience using JVM based languages (preferably Java or Kotlin)
• Strong skills in writing efficient, performant and extensible code using the right tools and patterns to implement the functionalities that add value to our customers
• Track record of working in an agile setup using continuous deployment and delivery
• Experience with event-driven architectures, domain-driven design, and eventual consistency
• Knowledge about resilience patterns
• Experience with containerization and container orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes preferred) in a cloud environment (AWS preferred)
• Strong written and spoken communication skills (in English)
