The Job

We seek a highly motivated researcher to engage in soil research. The PhD position, funded by the DFG, focuses on "Soil structure turnover under various land uses and feedbacks to soil carbon turnover". The position is limited to 3 years and aims to promote scientific qualification.

Your Tasks
  • Conduct field experiments on the influence of soil tillage on soil structure changes
  • Perform soil sampling at various sites across Germany
  • Use X-ray CT for microscale imaging of pore structure and organic matter
  • Process 3D images and perform statistical analysis
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
  • Collaborate with researchers at UFZ and Bayreuth University
  • Supervise students
  • Participate in the UFZ graduate program HIGRADE

Your Profile
  • Master's or equivalent in geoecology, soil science, environmental science, agriculture, forestry, or related fields
  • Experience with imaging techniques and statistical analysis is advantageous
  • Excellent communication and English skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Good organizational skills and a valid driver’s license in Germany
