Have you heard about “Berliner Zeitung” or “Berliner Kurier”? Well, that’s us.

We support regional newspapers to meet the challenges of the digital age by facilitating reach, engagement, and monetization of journalistic content, and integrating analytics and AI services (such as tagging, voice synthesis, content generation).

Our solution – jOS (journalistic operating system) – has supported newspapers for over 3 years, and we are looking to expand our team.

Tasks

Take responsibility for the growth of the .jOS SaaS platform. As a Senior Front-end Engineer, your contributions may include:

• Utilizing modern front-end frameworks and related system architectures (e.g., reactive programming)
• Improving and evolving our current tech stack, including Node.js, TypeScript, React, Next.js, and React Native (a plus)
• Maintaining high code quality standards
• Integrating third-party APIs and SDKs for frontends and other consumers (e.g., crawlers), optimizing for robustness and latency
• Working with DevOps processes focused on automation and quality (e.g., trunk-based development, multi-level test automation)
• Coaching junior team members

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, focusing on frontend technologies, ideally with a degree in computer science or a related field (e.g., mathematics, physics)
• Deep understanding of cloud-based, distributed systems, and ability to work with complex custom codebases
• Experience with React and Next.js stacks
• A passion for understanding business goals and user experiences behind software systems
• Collaborative approach to development, with the ability to provide feedback and guide colleagues, and communicate with stakeholders
• Good knowledge of English; working knowledge of German is a plus
• Experience working in a modern company culture with autonomy, trust, collaboration, and continuous professional development
