Qualifikationen

We’re on the lookout for an experienced Draughtsman to create detailed engineering drawings of machinery and plants using computer software. The role involves converting the concepts and plans of mill engineers into technical drawings to support the seamless implementation of new projects, modifications, and additions within the Mill.

As a Draughtsman, you will be responsible for:

  1. Completing on-site inspections of proposed work areas and collecting relevant information through measurements and photographs.
  2. Inspecting existing equipment or pipework to ensure new installations do not interfere with current plant operations.
  3. Assessing proposed concepts and maintaining clear communication with plant representatives.
  4. Liaising with engineers and fabricators, with guidance from the chief draughtsman, to improve designs for safety, strength, and cost-effectiveness.
  5. Assigning drawing numbers and entering details into the drawing register and database.
  6. Planning work according to set lead times and submitting drawings within deadlines.
  7. Creating technical drawings across various engineering disciplines using AutoCAD, Inventor, or Plant 3D.
  8. Producing error-free, legible drawings for piping, isometrics, bill of materials, layouts, and mechanical parts.
  9. Preparing material take-off lists with specifications for tendering.
  10. Completing drawings in accordance with Sappi standards and specifications.
  11. Using creativity to sketch and develop drawings when no concept exists, pending approval.
  12. Delivering drawings timely to meet customer requirements and prevent complaints.
  13. Reviewing final drawings for errors using checklists.
  14. Updating flowsheets (P&ID) describing all plant equipment.
  15. Modifying drawings daily for plant, electrical, and instrumentation machinery.
  16. Maintaining accurate data in the Data View system.
  17. Providing PDFs and prints of drawings for distribution to engineers, buyers, and contractors.
  18. Ensuring all drawings comply with fabrication and safety standards, including OHSA.

What are we looking for?

  • NQF level 5 (N5 in Draughting, Engineering studies, or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a heavy industry engineering environment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; knowledge of Inventor & Plant 3D is advantageous
  • Computer literacy in MS Office; SAP experience is a plus
