Global Dynamics of Social Policy and Social Cohesion (GSPSC) at the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS)
The Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) invites applications for 2 scholarships for international doctoral researchers in its Graduate School Scholarship Program “Global Dynamics of Social Policy and Social Cohesion” (GSPSC), funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). BIGSSS is an inter-university graduate school located at the University of Bremen and Constructor University Bremen, Germany. Successful applicants will receive a DAAD Ph.D. scholarship of 1.200 € / month (plus additional benefits) for 48 months.
The program explores how social policy and social cohesion are interconnected at global, regional, and national levels. Comparative or transnational perspectives, especially addressing interdependencies between the Global South and North, are encouraged. Single country case studies examining the complex links between social policy and social cohesion are also welcome.

The English-language doctoral program includes a structured curriculum, close supervision, and support for research, presentation, and publication. It fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among sociology, political science, psychology, and economics. While research questions should align broadly with supervisors' interests, applicants are expected to define specific research topics.
Requirements
Applicants should have a Master's degree (or equivalent) in sociology, political science, psychology, economics, or related fields, demonstrating strong academic ability. A thematic fit between the dissertation proposal and the supervisor's research interests is essential. All researchers must relocate to Bremen for the program's duration, as physical presence is required.
Eligibility, application, and further information
Applicants must be international, proficient in English (C1 level or equivalent), and must not have resided in Germany after February 1, 2023. Applications are accepted online until December 15, 2023 (11:59 pm CET). Interviews will be conducted online.
