Overview

The Director of Studies for German and English holds overall responsibility for all aspects of academic provision at EP Berlin. This role requires overseeing the daily management and professional development of all EP Berlin teachers and encompasses but is not limited to, the recruitment and assignment of English and German language teachers, course planning and coordination, creating, sourcing and ordering teaching materials, conducting placement tests, and providing ongoing academic support and guidance for EP students.

Responsibilities
Academic
  • Lead, train, and support teachers in effective teaching strategies.
  • Oversee placement, testing, timetabling, and tutorials.
  • Ensure academic support for students and maintain class standards.
  • Plan courses, order resources, and manage teaching materials.
  • Support other departments and liaise with exam centres.
  • Ensure classrooms and technology are fit for purpose.
  • Provide cover teaching when needed and assist with syllabus / material development.
  • Contribute to accreditation processes and teacher handbooks.
Recruitment & HR
  • Support teacher recruitment, interviews, and onboarding.
  • Maintain staff database and timesheets.
  • Liaise with HR on contracts and onboarding.
Safeguarding & Welfare
  • Promote safeguarding and student welfare at all times.
  • Support teachers with classroom management and student behaviour.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and attendance policies.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Eligibility to work in Germany.
  • Degree in German Studies, Linguistics, or related field (DaF / DaZ essential).
  • CELTA (or equivalent) + 5 years’ English teaching experience.
  • Native / near-native proficiency in German or English (C2).
  • Strong leadership, organisation, IT, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage academic administration.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • DELTA (or equivalent).
  • Experience in course design, team leadership, or recruitment.
  • Knowledge of EAP, GAP, or Pathway programmes.
  • Confident in delivering presentations and using academic databases.
