Job summary

PTV Group in Germany leads a highly collaborative product engineering organization across Europe. The role focuses on coaching Engineering Managers, building a unified engineering culture, and aligning quality standards across software engineering and QA squads.

You will also drive the adoption of AI tools across the development lifecycle, work with the Staff Engineer, and plan capacity for maintenance and technical debt in a dynamic, distributed environment.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of software engineering experience.
• At least five years of engineering leadership experience.
• Experience leading Engineering Managers across multiple teams.
• Fluent English; German, Polish, Italian or Spanish is a plus.

You develop the people who build our products: Engineering Managers, engineers and QA. As part of the leadership team, you report to our Chief Product & Technology Officer and work closely with the leaders of Product Experience, Platform & Infrastructure and Data, as well as our Principal Architect.

Our product teams in Germany, Poland, Italy and Spain work in autonomous squads. You strengthen the people and structures that help them succeed: through strong leadership, fair career paths, thoughtful hiring and a strong engineering culture.

What you’ll do

• Coach our Engineering Managers as people leaders and squad owners, helping them build healthy, effective teams.
• Lead the Product Engineering chapter for software engineering and QA, with a shared career ladder, clear hiring standards, and fair performance and promotion processes.
• Build a shared engineering culture across our locations and support teams through change.
• Make sure every squad has a clear quality bar and trains its engineers to meet it. The Principal Architect owns architecture and technical standards.
• Embed the effective use of AI across the software development lifecycle, from training and career development to measurable impact. You’ll work with the Staff Engineer, squads and Platform team.
• Plan the development of the engineering organisation and ensure teams have the agreed capacity for maintenance, security and technical debt.

Product priorities, squad delivery, architecture, AI standards, platform and data remain with the relevant product, squad and functional leaders. You’ll work with them as a peer and resolve areas of overlap directly.

What you bring to the team

• At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including work on complex, computation-heavy software.
• Strong practical knowledge of the modern SDLC, including CI/CD, automated testing, code review, observability and secure development.
• Current, hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and agentic tools, plus experience driving adoption across multiple teams and measuring its impact.
• At least five years of engineering leadership experience, including two years leading Engineering Managers across multiple teams.
• A track record of hiring, developing and retaining managers and senior engineers, and building fair career and performance processes.
• Experience leading distributed teams and navigating organisational change.
  Fluent English. German, Polish, Italian or Spanish is a plus.
• Experience with simulation or scientific software, regulated products, modernising established desktop systems or European works councils is welcome. A relevant degree is valued, but equivalent experience counts equally.
