Director Managed Operations, AWS European Sovereign Cloud Region

DESCRIPTION

Does the challenge of leading and driving large, cross-organizational projects for one of the largest Cloud providers excite you? Do you enjoy working in an entrepreneurial environment solving complex technical problems and delivering innovative solutions?

The AWS Managed Operations (MO) organization was founded in April 2023 to reduce operational load and toil through engineering projects. MO aims to build a top-tier engineering and operations team responsible for the day-to-day operations of AWS Regions, enhancing availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency. This position focuses on the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) Region, which is operated by EU personnel and located within the EU.

Key job responsibilities

The role is the lead for Managed Operations in the European Sovereign Cloud region. It involves setting and executing the strategic vision for operations teams in collaboration with product, sales, tech, and service teams. The candidate should have a detailed understanding of and ability to manage critical operational aspects. The leader should be customer-obsessed, balancing long-term support with short-term customer needs. Additionally, the role involves leading strategic initiatives and supporting operations across EU countries.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Advanced degree (Master’s) in Math, Statistics, Engineering, Science, Business from an accredited university
• Experience leading a global operational organization with responsibility for over 300 employees
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both remotely and face-to-face
• Proven success in operational management, enhancement, and change
• Experience managing and developing multiple management levels and their teams
• Knowledge of employment law, HR policies, and procedures
• Strong coaching and leadership skills, including succession planning
• People and performance management experience
• Proven track record in implementing and delivering large projects with effective communication at the executive level

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• MBA from a top-tier business school
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Experience working in a global, multi-time zone team environment
• Adaptability to changing priorities and stress management skills
• Decisiveness, confidence, and influencing skills
• Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methods like Kaizen, DMAIC, etc.
