Job description

Founded in 2011 Gini is a well-established award-winning FinTech company disrupting the banking, e-commerce, and insurance sector. Our most well-known product is our Gini photo payment software assistant, which is integrated into over 90% of German banking apps. With this and other products, we aim to improve everyone's quality of life by simplifying tedious tasks through automation. What’s special about us: We place a high value on autonomy, which we integrate into our daily work life with flat hierarchies. We have four core values that are essential to our collaboration at Gini: Excellence, Opportunities rather than Risks, Love, and Commitment & Responsibility. You can find more details about our values and the way we work together at Gini in ourhandbook .

We are very proud to have received several awards in recent years, including "Top Employer 2020" from Focus, "Financial Product of the Year 2022," and "Top Company" from kununu for 2023, 2024, and 2025.

At Gini, infrastructure is not a support function — it’s a product. As a Data Platform Engineer, you build and operate the data foundation that powers our services. You ensure that our databases and data stores are reliable, secure, scalable, and performant — forming a critical part of our platform running on bare-metal Kubernetes. You work at the intersection of infrastructure solutions, distributed data systems, and developer experience. You take ownership of our data platform, continuously improve it, and collaborate closely with developers to make working with data seamless, safe, and efficient.

Your playing field at Gini
  • Own and operate data platform components: You take responsibility for our databases and data stores — from provisioning and operation to continuous improvement.
  • Ensure reliability and high availability: You design, operate, and optimize highly available database systems running on bare-metal Kubernetes.
  • Drive security and standardization: You define and enforce security best practices , hardening strategies, and standardized configurations across all data systems.
  • Optimize performance: You continuously analyze and improve query performance, storage efficiency, and system throughput .
  • Automate data operations: You eliminate manual work by building automation around provisioning, scaling, backups, failover, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate closely with developers: You support product teams in designing efficient data access patterns, debugging issues, and improving overall data usage.
  • Contribute to incident response and stability: You diagnose and resolve production issues related to data systems, and you implement improvements to prevent recurrence.
  • Continuously evolve the data platform: You evaluate new technologies, improve existing systems, and help shape the long-term data platform strategy.
Skills to be successful
  • You have experience in operating, maintaining and providing databases and data stores such as PostgreSQL, Kafka, RabbitMQ, NoSQL databases, or other distributed data systems. Preferably on bare-metal Kubernetes, using infrastructure-as-code patterns and GitOps-based automation.
  • You have a solid understanding of high availability, replication, backup strategies, disaster recovery, and operating reliable production-grade data platforms. You continuously seek for opportunities to improve operational efficiency
  • You have development experience in Java and/or Golang and are proficient in at least one programming or scripting language, preferably Go for internal tooling and automation
  • You understand storage systems and concepts, performance tuning, query optimization, and the operational challenges of distributed data platforms at scale
  • You bring a security-by-default mindset and are familiar with security best practices for data systems, including access control, encryption, hardening, reliability, and resilience
  • You approach problems analytically, can troubleshoot complex distributed systems, take ownership of services, and proactively drive improvements
  • You collaborate effectively with developers, understand their needs when working with data, and communicate technical trade-offs clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You communicate effectively in English across technical and non-technical audiences
Why you’ll love working in our team
  • Bare-metal over (boring) public cloud — deep technical challenges instead of managed black boxes
  • Real ownership — you build, run, and improve what you operate
  • Infrastructure as a product — your work directly impacts developer productivity and system performance
  • Strong engineering culture — collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement are part of daily work
  • Passion for technology is part of the team’s DNA
  • Flexible working: Mobile working within Germany or from our bright Munich office with two roof terraces
  • Workation: Working from abroad? No problem – workation within the EU, the UK, and Switzerland is possible
  • Flexible working hours: Shape your workday in a way that fits your rhythm best
  • Growth & development: €2,500 net annual learning budget, plus 5 additional days off for your personal development and a monthly learning day
  • Vacation & Sabbatical: 30 days of paid vacation and the opportunity to take a sabbatical
  • Financial extras: €50 net per month on top of your salary or €50 Wellpass subsidy
  • Food: €3 meal allowance per working day in our high-quality employee restaurant
  • Team & culture: Regular team and company events and an open, feedback-driven culture with real team spirit
  • Mobility: Free underground parking and JobRad leasing with attractive tax benefits
  • Equipment: State-of-the-art Apple devices and ergonomic office equipment for productive work
  • Lots of different team events: we know how important team cohesion is, so we regularly organize team and company-wide events and activities
  • Shared feedback culture with purpose : a feedback-driven culture full of purpose and community. Click on kununu and Glassdoor to find out what our employees and candidates are saying about Gini
