The Data Management & Governance Expert combines core data management responsibilities with a strong focus on establishing and sustaining data governance initiatives. They will define data policies, lead governance councils, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and coordinate data ownership/stewardship models. It is necessary to work closely with executive stakeholders, IT, and business teams to drive a data-driven culture, resolve high-level data issues, and continuously improve the organization’s data governance maturity. They will configure and manage enterprise data catalogs, collaborate with data owners, and provide training. Develop metrics, oversee master data and support stewardship.

About the role

  • Define, implement, and enhance data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Establish data ownership and stewardship models aligned with business strategy.
  • Develop and maintain the Data Excellence Policy, including roles, processes, and best practices.
  • Facilitate governance committees, provide expert guidance, and escalate data issues.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations (e.g., GDPR) and manage data-related risks.
  • Provide training and communication on data governance principles and best practices.
  • Collaborate to establish data quality standards and monitor metrics.

Job requirements and experience

  • Experience of 5–7 years in data governance, data management, or related roles (preferably in energy networks, utilities, or regulated industries).
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA, DCAM).
  • Strong skills in cross-functional communication, governance council facilitation, and change management.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations, GDPR, and data privacy/security best practices.
  • Ability to define governance KPIs, measure maturity, and present findings to executive leadership.
  • Experience with data catalog, metadata management, or MDM tools (collaboration with Data Management & Catalog Specialist).
