Jobbeschreibung

To strengthen our team, we are looking to fill the following position at the earliest possible date for our German branch in Cologne:
Data Engineering Expert (m/f/d)
Let‘s talk about the role:

In this role, you will become a key contributor to the transformation of our data landscape toward a modern, cloud-based Enterprise Data Platform. You will work with cutting-edge data and CI/CD technologies while helping to build and shape the central data foundation of a growing insurance business. Together with a collaborative and highly motivated data team, you will drive improvements that have a direct and tangible impact on how data is delivered and used across the organization. Your work will not only ensure scalable and reliable data processes but also lay the groundwork for advanced analytics, Machine Learning, and AI-driven data products. This is a unique opportunity to actively shape the future of data within a dynamic and fast-evolving environment.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Design, implementation and continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workloads (e.g. data pipelines, transformations, notebooks, data applications), contributing to the adoption of modern cloud and data technologies within a next-generation Enterprise Data Platform.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for version control, automated testing, code quality checks and deployments in the data engineering context, helping to build a robust and scalable central data foundation.
  • Support the migration of our existing Data Warehouse (DWH) to a cloud-based Enterprise Data Platform, with a strong focus on automated build, test and release processes, and actively shaping the future data landscape of a growing insurance business.
  • Consolidation and integration of different data models into a single data platform, enabling a unified and future-ready data foundation for advanced analytics and AI use cases.
  • Build, test and operate data extraction, data transformation and other data processes to meet business requirements, while laying the groundwork for Machine Learning and AI-driven data products.
  • Collaborate closely with analytics and reporting teams to enable reliable, reproducible and scalable data delivery, working in a collaborative and highly motivated environment where you can actively drive improvements and create tangible impact.
Who are we looking for?
  • Completed technical studies or comparable training.
  • Solid understanding of data products, data warehouses and cloud data platforms, particularly within the data engineering ecosystem (pipelines, notebooks, ETL/ELT frameworks, workflow orchestration, and modern data lake/lake house architectures)
  • Several years of professional experience in cloud-based data engineering and/or data warehouse environments, including strong hands-on expertise in CI/CD pipelines, version control (e.g. Git), automated testing and deployment automation for data platforms
  • Experience in building modern data platforms using Databricks; initial experience with Unity Catalog is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in working with database systems (relational or other) using SQL. Experience with MS SQL Server is preferable.
  • Experience with of at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, R). Experience with Apache Spark for data processing and analytics is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the insurance or finance industry would be an advantage.
  • Good team and communication skills.
  • Very good German language skills (minimum B1 level) and fluent English language skills (minimum C1 level), both written and spoken.
