Purpose of the Job

An interface programmer in a chemical R&D department is responsible for automating processes and integrating/connecting different (device) software systems and databases used in the department. The role aims to improve research efficiency and effectiveness, reduce errors, enhance reproducibility of experiments, and facilitate collaboration among department members.

Key Accountabilities

1. Interoperability: Ensuring seamless integration of different software systems and tools, managing APIs, data exchange, and troubleshooting issues.
2. Process Automation: Identifying areas for automation to streamline workflows.
3. Training and Support: Providing training to R&D staff on software interfaces and ongoing technical support.
4. Documentation: Maintaining proper documentation for all software development and maintenance activities.
5. Data Visualization: Creating dashboards and reports for data trend analysis to aid decision-making.
6. Communication: Engaging actively with R&D management and stakeholders.
7. Travel: Willingness to travel and stay at other locations in Germany and Italy as needed.

Formal Education

Vocational training in IT or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

Working Experience

0-3 years relevant experience.

Required Personal and Professional Skills

• Proficiency in English; German skills (B1 level).
• Programming languages: Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, or C#.
• Experience with Power BI, AI, REST, SOAP, JSON, XML; knowledge of relational and object-oriented databases, SQL/NoSQL.
• Understanding web development concepts like HTTP, PHP, web servers.
