Position PurposeThe Custodial Afternoon/Evening Shift Manager oversees the daily operations of the custodial team during their assigned shift(s). This role ensures a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, and staff. The Shift Manager coordinates and supervises a team of supervisors to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation protocols and maintains high standards of cleanliness across all assigned areas. They act as a critical point of contact between custodial staff, squad leaders, and building occupants, fostering a positive work environment and delivering excellent service. The incumbent provides leadership in managing custodial services, including hiring, onboarding, managing personnel, supplies, equipment, and vendor relations. Collaborates with stakeholders to support academic, research, athletic activities, and manages special events and campus emergencies.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent skills and experience
  • Valid driver's license per Dartmouth policy
  • Minimum 7 years in hospitality, higher education, or healthcare
  • At least 5 years training custodial/housekeeping staff
  • Experience managing large custodial teams (>6 million sq ft)
  • Experience estimating, scheduling, managing services, and managing 70 FTE
  • Effective team-based work skills
  • Experience in a bargaining unit environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and adapting SOPs
  • Knowledge of safety procedures in custodial services
  • Understanding inventory and vendor delivery systems
  • Leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to handle personnel matters sensitively and assertively
  • Flexibility to work various shifts
  • Computer literacy with relevant software (e.g., Planon, Zan Compute, Smart Inspect, Microsoft Office, Kronos)
