A leading university hospital in Germany is seeking a Computational Biologist/Computer Scientist to standardize computational workflows and develop advanced models in cancer biology. The role requires a relevant degree and strong programming skills, alongside a passion for cancer genomics. This position offers a collaborative research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities.
Computer Scientist/ Computational Biologist (f/m/x) – Department of Translational Genomics - Beleggia Laboratory. TV-L: 38,5 h/week (100%). Fixed-term for 2 years as part of a third-party funded project. Your salary will be based on TV-L.
We are looking for a talented, curious Computational Biologist/Computer Scientist with a strong interest in cancer genomics and cancer biology. The successful candidate will be involved in standardizing computational workflows, software development, large-scale IT processes, high-performance computation, and developing novel concepts for the analysis of highly complex data sets in order to gain insight into cancer biology. The candidate will also handle standard IT tasks at our Department and manage the computational infrastructure for the SFB1399 project (e.g., data security, data sharing).
The position requires a university degree in a relevant field, such as physics, mathematics, computational biology, bioinformatics or biostatistics; preferably an advanced degree (Master of Science, Ph.D.), but we also welcome applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree and equivalent work experience. Profound experience in the computational/mathematical analysis of complex data sets as well as programming skills (preferably C++, R or Python) are mandatory. Candidates should have a genuine interest in cancer biology, good communication skills, and should be capable of driving projects with a high degree of independence.
Please submit your application including a detailed CV, list of publications, two references and a brief statement of research interests. Application deadline: 16.11.2025. Job-ID: n5zly7l6.
We offer a great work environment, intensive mentoring and several interactions with global leaders, both from academia and industry. In addition, the highly collaborative research environment in Cologne provides access to state-of-the-art core facilities, including genomics, proteomics and imaging.
We are one of the leading university hospitals in Germany and network research, teaching and health care at the highest level. The spectrum of exciting development opportunities is large, with a collaborative culture that brings specialists from around the world together. We are committed as an employer to support all employees in reconciling their job with their goals and life situations.
Embedded in a highly dynamic and competitive research environment with multiple national and international collaborations, the Department of Translational Genomics focuses on understanding fundamental aspects of cancer using high-throughput data and developing advanced computational models. We analyze genome, transcriptome and proteome data acquired with state-of-the-art technologies from massively parallel sequencing (whole genome, whole exome, and transcriptome sequencing), single-cell sequencing approaches and single-cell proteomics. The research leverages programs as part of the collaborative research center SFB1399. The candidate will work closely with Prof. Martin Peifer, Prof. Dr. Roman Thomas and Prof. Dr. Julie George and the IT Center University of Cologne (ITCC).
Applications from female candidates are expressly welcome and will be given priority in case of equal suitability and professional performance. People with disabilities are welcome to apply and will be treated preferentially in case of equal suitability and qualification. The position is suitable for staffing with part-time employees.
