Job summary

STACKIT, the compute division of Schwarz Group, is hiring a software engineer to develop and maintain features for our compute products, including generic servers, GPU servers, and confidential computing.

You will contribute to upstream OpenStack, optimize VM performance with live migration, and extend the compute portfolio with new machine types while evaluating GPU and confidential computing technologies.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in Go and Python.
• Solid experience with OpenStack in production.
• Deep understanding of Linux virtualization — KVM, QEMU, and libvirt.
• Hands-on experience operating infrastructure at scale with reliability and automation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain features for STACKIT's compute products, including generic server capabilities, GPU servers, and confidential computing.
• Contribute upstream to OpenStack and related projects, and modify virtualization tech as needed to enable product features.
• Optimize virtual machine performance, including live migration.
• Introduce new generations of machine types and extend the compute product portfolio.
• Evaluate and integrate GPU and confidential computing technologies.

Your tasks

• Develop and maintain features for STACKIT's compute products, covering generic server capabilities, GPU servers, and confidential computing
• Contribute upstream to open source projects such as OpenStack and YAOOK, and modify virtualization technology where needed to enable product features
• Optimize virtual machine performance, including live migration
• Introduce new generations of machine types and extend the compute product portfolio
• Evaluate and integrate GPU and confidential computing technologies

Your profile

• Strong programming skills in Go (Golang) and Python
• Solid experience with OpenStack in a production environment
• Strong understanding of Linux virtualization — KVM, QEMU, and libvirt
• Hands-on experience operating infrastructure at scale, with a focus on reliability and automation
• Comfort working close to the metal: kernel behaviour, hypervisor internals, and low-level debugging don't intimidate you
