A global development organization in Berlin is seeking a qualified Communications Clerk to assist in raising awareness of UNDP’s activities. The role involves managing social media content, supporting communication strategies, and providing research assistance. Candidates should have a background in communications, fluency in English and German, and a minimum of 1 year relevant experience.
BACKGROUND
The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for positioning UNDP as the world’s leading global development agency, promoting its global authority and thought leadership on sustainable development and the interconnected issues of poverty, inequality, and climate change. BERA supports UNDP in building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances essential to achieving its mission and leads UNDP’s work on innovative and diversified partnerships and ways of financing the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It is also responsible for global campaigns on critical development issues and coordinates and sets corporate standards across the functions of partnerships, marketing and communications within UNDP and leads on internal communications.
BERA has a robust network of Representation Offices (Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Tokyo and Washington , which play a critical role in audience centric communications and management and strengthening of relationships with Public and Private Partners to help build a strong brand for UNDP within the local ecosystem.
In April 2021 UNDP opened a new representation office in Germany, which is a reflection of the complementary agenda between UNDP and Germany and the shared ambition of supporting country-led efforts to achieve the SDGs through the promotion of democratic governance, poverty eradication, stabilization and conflict prevention in fragile contexts and action on inequality, climate change and the environment. The Office aims at deepening the partnership with Germany, increasing the visibility of UNDP and its work among German constituents and supporting UNDP at headquarter, regional and country levels in better positioning with German counterparts (parliament and its committees, Ministries, KFW, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia, think tanks and the media).
The need for a Communications Clerk is essential to assist the GRO Team and the Communications Specialist (JPO) to raise awareness vis a vis key Government and development partners but also the public at large in regard to UNDP’s mandate and results achieved, in particular owing to German core and non-core contributions. Equally, the Communications Clerk will be crucial to increase the visibility of the activities undertaken with FiT funds related to understanding UNDP’s mandate and results achieved in designated thematic areas, such as climate, de-risking development and sustainable finance in Germany.
DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
The Project Clerk will be supervised by the Communication Specialist (JPO) and report to the same as regards to the ongoing work related to the GRO’s Communications functions.
Furthermore, the Project Clerk shall also report directly to the GRO Director as regards the research related tasks on the intersection between security and development.
The applicant must be legally qualified to Work in Germany. UNDP will not facilitate a Visa for this position as it is locally based.
Support overall planning, management and monitoring of the GRO’s communication activities, including within FiT funded initiatives, through its social media channels and website.
Support the strategic planning and implementation of the GRO’s major internal and external communications engagements with the overarching goal to promote the visibility of UNDP towards the German media and general audience including the FiT funded initiatives
Special assistance to the GRO Director with research-related projects on the role of international
cooperation for global security, ensuring alignment with the overall strategy of FiT.
