As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for the company’s continued market entry for our growing offering, building territory plans, identifying target customers in line with the business goals, and ensuring applicability of marketing tactics for the territory. You will consistently apply a working knowledge of Professional, Consultative and Strategic Selling skills to primarily develop relationships with new customers, but also maintain existing business, and develop incremental business in existing accounts.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the Gene Therapy market space, manufacturing processes and the drug development regulatory environment, as well as the ability to make strategic decisions and articulate this future vision to both internal and external audiences at all levels of the organization. The candidate will work directly with the Head of Sales for the mRNA CDMO Services group and technical teams to uncover opportunities, identify manufacturing solutions, and negotiate service contracts.

The new team member will work for the CDMO Commercial Team to define and prioritize new opportunities as well as collaborate with Field Marketing Managers across the US region, by:

  1. Playing a lead role in building out the customer pipeline through proactive customer engagement.
  2. Attendance of technical customer discussions, and understanding the individual customer’s needs around their manufacturing process.
  3. Representing the Gene Therapy business at conferences (lead generation).
  4. Driving to close contract negotiations for mRNA manufacturing services, throughout the technical sales cycle.

This is a role with up to 40% travel. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated, driven, and comfortable operating in a remote matrix setup.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Biology (Cell, Molecular Biology, Immunology) or Engineering or related disciplines.
  2. 5+ years of sales / technical sales experience or client relationship experience, ideally in a bio-manufacturing environment.
  3. Proven track records in negotiating long term/large scale contracts in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
  4. Ability to act as “voice of the expert”, provide effective communication to achieve solid working relationships with customers.
  5. Demonstrated experience in identifying new cell and gene therapy target opportunities and acting to establish contacts – a proven “hunter”.
  6. Experience in explaining technical capabilities, and presentations.
  7. Strong influencing skills with the ability to manage projects across functions.
  8. Strong negotiating skills.
  9. Fluent in German and English.
  10. The expectation is that the candidate would spend up to 40% of their time traveling, in meetings at client sites or at industry events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MBA or PhD in Biology (Cell, Molecular Biology, Immunology) or Engineering or related disciplines.
  2. Knowledge of Gene Therapy Commercial approvals, process development, bioreactor technology, downstream processing and biological safety testing preferred.
  3. Experience within a regulated environment and ability to interact effectively with process development and quality assurance / quality control professionals.
  4. Strong influencing skills with the ability to manage projects across functions.
