They are seeking a Commercial Accountant to join their Berlin team. The role reports to the Finance Director based in London.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Managing the three German GmbHs.
- Providing comprehensive financial reporting to the UK HQ.
- Owning the building cost budget and forecast, and working with the Head of Operations to enhance financial performance.
- Supporting the events team to drive revenue and ensure proper booking of revenues and costs.
- Bookkeeping in Datev and ensuring accurate monthly VAT returns in partnership with the external Tax Advisor.
- Supporting the wider finance department and ad hoc requirements of the German HQ team.
- Preparing all necessary reports and submissions to regulatory bodies.
Key Tasks
- Managing budgets and forecasts for building costs and event revenues.
- Preparing and filing VAT returns.
- Carrying out month-end closing, including P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
- Processing payroll for all German-based employees.
- Supporting the external tax advisor in preparing year-end accounts.
- Reviewing bookkeeping and processing payments as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or equivalent (Qualified by experience).
- Expertise in Datev, capable of independently filing VAT returns and collaborating with tax advisors.
- Ability to assist in statutory accounts production under German GAAP.
- Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, Wirtschaftsprüfer, with 1+ years post-qualification experience.
- Optional: audit experience in property or small to medium enterprises.
- Attention to detail and a proactive, can-do attitude.
- Familiarity with finance systems (Xero, MS Office, Mac).
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and passion.
- Maturity to manage payroll and support HR matters.
