A part-time Co-Managing Editor (co-ME) is sought to work with the current co-ME to provide support for processing and publishing scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Editor-in-chief (EIC) of the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation (JVDI), the official journal of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.

Duties: Reporting to the EIC, and in concert with the existing co-ME, the part-time co-ME is responsible for the smooth and efficient day-to day operation of the editorial process, they ensure that deadlines are met and that all content is produced and published on time, they handle logistical and operational tasks and may assist with content decisions. The co-MEs support the JVDI Section Editors, reviewers, and authors in the scientific peer review process that is managed within the Sage Track electronic system.

Requirements: Candidates will have technical skills, including strong English language skills, copy editing, fact-checking, organizational/project management skills, and interpersonal skills, such as in communication, problem-solving, team building, and conflict resolution. Proficiency is required in Microsoft Word and Excel. Adobe Photoshop experience is desirable but not required. Knowledge of veterinary, biological and laboratory terminology are desired; an undergraduate degree in a biological science would be useful.

This is a new part-time salaried position anticipated to be approximately half-time (20 hours per week) but effort is negotiable. Employees hired at least half time are eligible for benefits including vacation, holiday and sick leave, health stipend, and retirement stipend. The employee will work remotely when and from wherever they wish provided they have reliable internet services and can meet via Zoom as occasionally needed with North American staff. A long-term relationship is desired. Compensation will be commensurate with skills and experience.

The Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation is the official journal of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. The mission of the Journal is to educate by informing readers of progress in veterinary laboratory medicine and related fields of endeavor. The key objectives of the JVDI are to promote the science of veterinary laboratory medicine and the betterment of animal and public health.
