SALES ASSOCIATE

Supervisor: Store Manager

Job Description

The Sales Associate is responsible for performing general sales duties in their assigned department and assisting in other areas of the store as needed. They should display a helpful, friendly attitude towards all customers to make Theisen’s the best in the industry. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting customers, helping them find the correct merchandise, explaining product benefits and features, and performing general upkeep of the store. They may also assist with cash register operations.

Qualifications

Job Duties

• Approach customers storewide, offer assistance, and guide them to merchandise.
• Explain product benefits and features, suggest add-on items.
• Maintain knowledge of all products; develop expertise in specific areas if needed.
• Compute price quotes, process merchandise orders, provide contact information, and follow up on special orders.
• Answer phone inquiries within guidelines.
• Practice security measures.
• Assist customers with checkout and carryouts.
• Ensure shelf tags are accurate, organize merchandise, and set up displays.
• Receive and check shipments against reports.
• Remove merchandise from packaging, match stock numbers, and label items.
• Restock shelves, assemble products, and process interstore transfers.
• Perform cleaning duties, including dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, and trash disposal.
• Maintain store cleanliness and merchandising standards per Theisen’s brand.
• Perform other tasks as requested by management, such as inventory, unloading trucks, delivering merchandise, and operating cash registers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic math skills.
• High integrity and business ethics.
• Ability to answer phones and learn cash register functions.
• Familiarity with forklift and pallet jack operations is preferred but not required.

Must have a positive attitude, good listening skills, and an outgoing personality.

Physical Demands

Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs., walking, standing, bending, reaching, and light grasping. Occasional lifting over 50 lbs., climbing stairs, squatting, and grasping. Must be able to talk and hear, work flexible shifts including nights and weekends, and maintain attendance. Vision should be adequate for job functions, and manual dexterity is required for operating equipment.

Work Environment and Conditions

Primarily inside store; occasional outside work in varying weather conditions. Fast-paced environment with deadlines and sales targets. Potential hazards include burns, cuts, electrical, and mechanical risks. Exposure to dust, fumes, odors, and poor ventilation may occur. Protective gear may be required depending on tasks.

Corporate Office: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Mon-Fri.

Distribution Center: 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM (1st Shift), 3:30 PM - 2:00 AM (2nd Shift).

Store Locations: Vary by location, generally 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Mon-Sat, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sun.
