Your mission
VIDAs Climate Risk Engine delivers advanced climate risk and natural hazard analytics to governments development partners and private-sector organizations worldwide. These insights inform critical decisions in energy planning infrastructure resilience and sustainable development - from electrification planning in developing nations to climate risk assessments in mature markets.
Were expanding our Data Solutions team to strengthen how we develop apply customize and improve the Climate Risk Engine for project-specific contexts. Youll primarily focus on implementing and tailoring existing methodologies for customer projects with opportunities to enhance data pipelines or develop new models where needed. Over time youll grow into customer-facing responsibilities within project work while remaining focused on technical delivery rather than project management.
This position is part of our customer-facing Data Solutions team and works closely with our Technology team to develop our code-base and receiving their technical guidance to ensure robust production-ready solutions.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with the engineering team to build deploy and maintain production-ready data pipelines for climate and geospatial analytics and mature our Climate Risk Engine.
- Develop apply and customize climate risk and natural hazard methodologies for customer-specific projects using our Climate Risk Engine.
- Work with global climate datasets weather data and satellite imagery to support diverse applications.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of scalable data processing workflows using our stack (BigQuery Cloud Functions Google Earth Engine etc.).
- Contribute to project delivery by producing high-quality analytical outputs documentation and insights.
- Gradually engage in customer-facing interactions within projects providing technical input without project management responsibilities.
Is it you you're looking for
- Background: Degree in Climate Science Environmental Science Geography or a related field combined with professional software engineering experience. Strong statistical knowledge and previous work with climate and natural hazard data is essential.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python experience with climate or geospatial data and familiarity with ML libraries (e.g. PyTorch scikit-learn).
- Mindset: Engineering-oriented approach - translating scientific methodologies into production-grade software.
- AI-Forward Approach: Enthusiasm for using AI tools in methodology development and software engineering and openness to promoting their adoption within the team.
- Customer-Facing Skills: Some experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders or clients with the ability to contribute effectively to project discussions and reporting.
- Experience: 2-4 years combining domain expertise and software development.
- Flexibility: Comfortable working in a dynamic evolving environment collaborating across multiple teams and supervisors and adapting to shifting priorities as the business and strategy progress.
- Bonus Points: Experience with GCP geospatial tools or climate modelling.
- Broader software engineering skills: data engineering backend development.
