The Chief Engineer for Battery Systems (m/f/d) will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the development and integration of cutting-edge battery technologies, directly contributing to the company’s long-term business success. This individual will be responsible for leading all technical aspects related to battery system design, validation, and performance, while ensuring alignment with business goals and compliance with industry standards. Working closely with One R&D and Products and Systems, the Chief Engineer will ensure that the roadmap for battery technology supports the company's strategic direction and secures its long-term competitiveness in the market. He anticipates technological trends and works with the engineering team to develop outstanding innovations in the market.

Your impact

• Orchestrate the entire battery system development process, ensuring seamless collaboration between cross-functional teams including R&D, product management, and manufacturing.
• Work closely with the Head of the Business Unit to align technical development with the overall business strategy, ensuring battery innovations contribute to long-term business objectives.
• Oversee the complete lifecycle of battery systems, from concept through design, validation, and production.
• Lead the selection of battery cell technology, thermal management systems, and power electronics to meet or exceed performance, safety, and cost targets.
• Foster a culture of innovation by driving research into new battery technologies and ensuring continuous improvement in performance and efficiency.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to the battery engineering team, ensuring professional growth and high team performance.

Who you are

You possess excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, a strong sense of responsibility, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a passion for innovative technologies. To ensure you succeed in your role, we are also looking for:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
• Extensive experience in battery system design and development, preferably within the automotive, aerospace, or energy storage sectors.
• Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing engineering teams and cross-functional projects.
• Expertise in battery chemistry, thermal management, power electronics, and BMS (Battery Management System).
• Strong understanding of the business implications of technical decisions and the ability to align technology with business goals.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to battery safety and performance.
• Preferred experience working with electric vehicles, renewable energy, or grid storage systems.
• Willingness to travel
• Very good English and German language skills
