Job summary

Mercor is recruiting an Analytical Chemist for a remote contract role. The position requires proficiency in detecting hazardous compounds (GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, IR, NMR) and performing method development for trace analysis.

The candidate will support environmental and emergency-response analytics, using reference standards and spectral libraries to identify unknowns, with QA/QC and accreditation expectations. The role emphasizes independent, asynchronous work, timely deliverables, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Experience in detection and identification of hazardous compounds using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, IR, or NMR.
• Method development and validation for trace-level analysis.
• Background in environmental, occupational, or emergency-response sampling and analysis.
• Experience with reference standards, spectral libraries, and unknown identification.
• Laboratory accreditation, QA/QC, and proficiency testing.

• Write challenging single-turn prompts in Chemistry and Chemical Safety, labeled as benign, dual-use, and adversarial.
• Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard to ensure correct handling.
• Write reference answers with technical reasoning for correct responses.

• Collaborate with practitioners to draw reliable lines in dual-use scenarios.
• Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines while improving AI model performance.

Compensation: $65–$75/hour
