We are actively looking for a Chartering Manager to join our Team!

This is a hybrid role, offering a combination of remote and in-office work, based out of one of our office locations in either Leer, Germany or Aberdeen, UK.

The Chartering Manager is responsible for overseeing all chartering activities within their assigned regions. The primary objective of the role is to proactively develop and maintain strong client relationships while enhancing UOS’s market presence in these areas. To secure charter contracts and drive operational revenue, the Chartering Manager collaborates closely with teams across the organization, leveraging company-wide support and expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively develop and maintain strategic relationships with business partners, charterers, brokers and customers.
  • Support the Head of Chartering in identifying new routes to market and new products to create commercial advantage for UOS.
  • Support and contribute to the development and execution of the business strategy for UOS. Provide input and support during the UOS strategic planning process.
  • Suggest new opportunities to expand the business in new markets. Develop and implement these plans to generate new revenue.
  • Work closely across the whole business to establish commercial best practice.
  • Ensures the Head of Chartering has full transparency of commercial and contractual risk and help develop robust risk mitigation strategies to manage exposure within acceptable limits
  • Working as a team with HOC/CFO/CEO to generate PCG´s, performance bonds, bid bonds, guarantees and other similar commercial instruments required for tenders and offers.
  • Negotiate charter contracts and build contract backlog and revenue cover.
  • Manage and execute tender and sales activities for assigned regions.
  • Develop and maintain non-confrontational, mutually beneficial relationships with clients, end users and local partners to give UOS the best market positioning in the regions in which we work.
  • Analyze the offshore market to stay aware of trends and developing strategies and recommend UOS´s response to these trends and developments.
  • Develop processes and ways of working to optimize efficiency in chartering.
  • Monitor and manage performance of secured contracts to optimize revenue.
  • Prepare and present reports and presentations to shareholders and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of budgets and control the budget in assigned regions.
  • Attend client meetings worldwide to build and maintain strong relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Shipping or equivalent/ Educated Shipping Clerk or 5-10 years’ experience in related field
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical skills – ability to identify details and to draw and communicate conclusions.
  • Extensive practical knowledge of charter parties used in the chartering of offshore vessels including their structure, negotiation, modification, interpretation and application.
  • Experienced in working with people of varying cultures and backgrounds.
  • Able to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and manage own time efficiently.
  • Good knowledge in MS Office
  • Willingness to travel
  • Extensive verbal and written communication skills in English. German and other languages is a plus.
