Category Manager (m/f/d) Direct Materials Europe

Responsibilities

As Regional Category Manager for Direct Materials in Europe, you will lead the handling of non-core commodity groups and materials within your region. You will support the divisional category manager in strategy development and execution, and act as a cross-functional facilitator. Your tasks include:

• Derive and take ownership of savings and other targets such as supply security, supply chain resilience, and innovation sustainability, including identifying cost reduction and optimization levers within the category.
• Establish and facilitate close collaboration with business stakeholders on strategy and priorities.
• Create internal spend transparency for materials and suppliers within the category portfolio.
• Conduct continuous market analyses to identify alternative suppliers, new developments, trends, and improved solutions.
• Perform tenders and negotiations within defined categories at the divisional level.
• Provide regular updates on category performance versus targets, including risk management and opportunities.
• Oversee strategic suppliers and integrate them into demand, specification management, and innovation processes.

Requirements

Applicants should have a commercial or chemical degree or several years of professional experience, ideally in strategic purchasing within the chemical industry. Strong negotiation and communication skills, a confident and congenial manner, and enjoyment working in interface functions and international teams are essential. Additional competencies include:

• High self-motivation and a structured, solution-oriented working style.
• Proactive, hands-on mentality with team-working ability.
• SAP R/3 and MS Office proficiency.
