About Our Client

Our client is a Berlin-based organisation founded in 2023 by a diverse group of purpose-driven professionals with backgrounds in nature conservation, clean energy, and rural development. Their vision is to mitigate climate change through nature-based solutions, while supporting local communities in building resilient and sustainable livelihoods.

Their mission is to design and implement long-term, landscape-scale conservation and restoration projects in terrestrial ecosystems. Once matured, these projects are brought to the nature market to generate payments for ecosystem services.

About the Role

This is a techno-managerial position within the climate department, based at the organisation’s head office in Berlin. The successful candidate will serve as a critical link between the scientific team at the head office and field teams working on landscape-scale conservation and restoration projects. These projects span forest, agricultural, and grassland ecosystems.

The role involves overseeing the project lifecycle to ensure compliance with various environmental certification standards. It will require close collaboration with Landscape Specialists, Earth Observation Experts, and GHG Accounting Specialists. Regular travel to project sites for monitoring and evaluation is an essential part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead feasibility assessments and baseline studies for forestry, agriculture, and grassland projects by coordinating efforts between head office and country teams.
  • Develop project concepts and idea notes based on data and input from the climate department.
  • Ensure project development and implementation adhere to selected methodologies in forestry, agriculture, or grassland ecosystems.
  • Act as the primary liaison to certification bodies including Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, BioCarbon Registry, Plan Vivo Standard, and Ecosystem Restoration Standard, while staying informed on updates.
  • Oversee the public consultation processes required by certification standards during project development.
  • Support the Head of Operations in planning and scheduling project activities.
  • Manage documentation processes required throughout the project lifecycle, particularly those mandated by certification bodies.
  • Coordinate third-party validation and verification processes according to certification standards.
  • Assist the Head of Climate and Finance Office in preparing financial plans for projects.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following: Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard, BioCarbon Registry, Plan Vivo Standard, or Ecosystem Restoration Standard.
  • Strong understanding of multiple AFOLU (Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use) methodologies related to the above standards.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience managing or coordinating multi-team conservation or restoration projects, with demonstrable work samples.
  • Willingness to be based in Berlin.
  • Full-time (40-hour/week) commitment.
  • Availability for international travel, particularly to sub-Saharan Africa and Europe.
  • Openness to co-creating systems, culture, and workflows in a start-up environment.
  • Reference checks with former employers.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French, Portuguese, or Spanish is a strong advantage.
  • Educational background in agriculture, forestry, or landscape management is desirable.
  • Familiarity with national AFOLU policies and regulations in sub-Saharan Africa is a plus.

What Our Client Offers

  • A purpose-driven career contributing to climate change mitigation and community resilience.
  • Hands-on experience in climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.
  • A dynamic, international work environment with global collaboration.
  • The opportunity to shape and grow within an early-stage organisation.
  • The chance to live and work in vibrant Berlin.
