Overview
The Life is Good Playmaker Project is seeking an experienced Capital Campaign Director (Contract) to lead a bold, time-bound fundraising initiative that will fuel our organization’s next chapter. You will serve as the point person for all aspects of a discrete capital campaign—from strategy and infrastructure to donor engagement and implementation. This role requires an entrepreneurial spirit. You are not inheriting a well-established major gifts program and donor roster. You are rolling up your sleeves and building it, leveraging the strengths of the Founder, the Executive Director, and the Donor Stewardship Manager to attract new philanthropic investors.
This role is ideal for a senior-level fundraiser or consultant who thrives in campaign environments, is results-driven, and can operate both strategically and tactically. The position is temporary and focused specifically on delivering a successful campaign outcome. Desired results: $300K within 6 months, $500K within 9 months, $1M within 1 year. Total: $3M in 3 years.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Refine and implement the capital campaign plan, calendar, and milestones in collaboration with leadership and key stakeholders
Partner with leadership to establish campaign goals, case for support, and donor recognition plans
Identify, cultivate, and steward prospective major donors
Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and campaign materials
Support or lead high-level solicitations in partnership with leadership and Board
Coach and leverage strengths of Founder (dynamic keynote presenter) and Executive Director (passionate leader with 14+ years on team) to achieve set goals and build meaningful, long-term relationships with venture philanthropy partners.
Campaign Infrastructure
Build and manage prospect pipelines, tracking systems, and donor communications
Establish campaign committee structure and support its activities
·Provide regular progress reports to staff and Board
Work closely with internal staff, Board members, and external partners to align efforts and maximize impact
Train and coach internal team and volunteers as needed to build campaign capacity
Ideal Candidate
Proven experience managing or consulting on successful nonprofit capital campaigns ($5M or greater). Experience with small or startup nonprofits a plus.
Track record of securing major gifts and leading donor strategy
Strong project management, communication, and relationship-building skills
Ability to work independently and as a collaborative partner
Familiarity with donor databases (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) a plus
Commitment to the mission, values, and voice of our organization
Ideally based in New England, with the ability to travel to Boston 1–2 times per month for in-person meetings and collaboration.
