Job Title: Campus Police Officer

Major Functions

The Campus Police Officer reports directly to a Campus Police Sergeant. Responsibilities include patrolling campus buildings and grounds, enforcing laws, rules, and regulations, providing escort services, substituting for dispatchers, locking and unlocking doors, and performing security duties at off-campus facilities owned or operated by the college. The officer also provides general information, public relations, traffic assistance, and writes detailed reports on investigations, complaints, and security issues.

Minimum Training and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required, with at least one year of law enforcement experience. A valid Florida Law Enforcement certification is preferred. Substitutions include two years of active military or public contact experience, or college coursework/vocational training on a year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge of college policies, state statutes, and law enforcement procedures
  • Ability to work in stressful and potentially dangerous situations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prepare clear reports, perform first aid and CPR, and operate dispatch and computer systems
  • Physical ability to perform outdoor duties, stand long periods, and arrest individuals
