Business Development Manager (m/f/d) Sustainability & Mechanical Recycling

LyondellBasell is seeking a Business Development Manager for Sustainability & Mechanical Recycling in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The role involves understanding the plastic waste landscape, conducting customer assessments, and collaborating with various teams on sustainable projects. Candidates should have a degree in a scientific field, 5-10 years of experience in the polymer industry, and strong communication and leadership skills. Frequent travel within the EU is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Having strong knowledge of the strategic regional plastic waste and mechanical recycling landscape, industry structure, market trends and competitive dynamics.
2. Apply knowledge of markets, customers, products, technology, manufacturing and feedstock positions and sustainability/circular economy topics to support mechanical recycling feedstock sourcing and concept development for sustainable new business development projects.
3. Conduct customer needs assessments to fully understand best-fit material solutions for short and long-term growth; communicate those needs internally and collaborate with key functions such as New Business Development, Sales, Technical Service, Marketing, Technology and Asset Management to ensure alignment on growth and market strategies.
4. Identify key innovation opportunities based on sustainable feedstock at the top tier OEM(s) based on a deep technical understanding of applications and customer performance/economic requirements.
5. Communicate and collaborate regularly with the New Business Development, Sales, Technical Service and Marketing teams to give line of sight to where/how our products are, or will be, moving through the value chain.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

1. Communication Skills: Able to work effectively with senior managers from diverse cultural backgrounds; seeks input and involvement of others in matters requiring wide support; builds consensus around complex issues; communicates messages in a clear way that does not leave room for ambiguous interpretation.
2. Strong leadership and project management skills.
3. Excellent application and product related technical skills, especially in the polymer recycling field.
4. Experience in sourcing, processing and application technologies in the polymer recycling field.
5. Experience in seeing new opportunities (multiple projects or new material development).
6. Experience in cross-functional projects and resource management.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

1. University or college degree (or equivalent) in a scientific or technical (preferably polymer) area.
2. Five to ten years of relevant professional experience in a commercial (sales, marketing, business development or product management) role within the polymer industry, preferably in the recycling business sector.
3. Basic IT capabilities (e-mail, MS-EXCEL, MS-WORD, MS-POWERPOINT, SAP).
4. Language: besides the mother tongue, good in English (written and spoken).
5. Willingness to frequently travel within the EU.
6. Driving license.
