You will join one of our offices around the world to work in teams and directly with our clients.

In this role, you will help our clients in the private, public, and social sectors solve some of their most pressing problems. You will also work with a range of experts in the firm, from data scientists to researchers to software and app designers.

You'll work in teams of typically 3 - 5 consultants to identify and often implement potential solutions for specific client problems or challenges. Together, you will help clients make lasting improvements to their performance and achieve their most important goals.

During each project, you will gather and analyze information, formulate and test hypotheses, and develop and communicate recommendations. You'll also present results to client management and collaborate with client team members to implement these recommendations. In some cases, travel to the client site may be required.

When you join McKinsey, you become part of a distinctive and inclusive culture. We aim to accelerate your development as a leader to create positive, enduring change in the world. As a business analyst, you will receive training and coaching to improve in areas such as:

  • Structuring ambiguous problems and taking action to solve them
  • Synthesizing complex information into clear takeaways and recommendations using qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Working effectively with diverse teams to develop optimal solutions and motivate action
  • Building trust-based relationships with clients to better serve their organizations
  • Communicating effectively with all audiences, including senior leaders, in a structured manner
  • Developing your leadership style by leveraging your passions, strengths, and values

McKinsey emphasizes strengths-based development and coaching, with frequent mentoring from colleagues. This includes support from a senior colleague to help you grow and achieve your career goals, as well as a professional development manager to assist with project staffing aligned with your priorities and client needs.

The business analyst role is the beginning of a rewarding, challenging, and flexible career at McKinsey. During your initial years, you will serve on multiple client engagements, working with colleagues and clients across various industries and functions.

We encourage exploration of different content areas or geographies through a year-long rotation within our practices (e.g., corporate finance, social sector, healthcare, operations) or global offices. Many do this after two years as a generalist business analyst. You will likely collaborate with teams across digital, implementation, and tech and analytics capabilities, gaining broad exposure.

Following your tenure as a business analyst, and assuming good performance, you may transition into a post-graduate school role. Some analysts take advantage of opportunities for outside experience through secondments with private or social sector clients, supported by the firm. Others may pursue graduate studies with firm support.

Minimum requirements include:

  • An undergraduate or master's degree, or 1+ years of work experience post-undergraduate (requirements vary by country or practice)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster an inclusive environment at all organizational levels
  • Capability to independently drive workstreams within broader team projects
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change
  • Strong problem-solving skills through quantitative analysis
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English and the local office language(s)
