Business Development Executive – IT Division - INOVIS Inc.

Get to know US

Founded in 1992, INOVIS is known for providing high-quality services in competitive intelligence (CI). It is one of the most established, oldest global CI specialist firms – staffed by a team of seasoned, loyal industry veterans who know how to spot and capitalize on opportunities, guiding brand teams effectively towards achieving success. And in doing so, they can effectively broaden their market presence and safeguard their competitive position.

INOVIS Inc. focuses on the fields of info tech and medtech. Our goal is to help organizations (mostly Fortune 500 and global Blue Chip firms) by providing exceptional competitive intelligence and strategic analysis, so they can make better strategic decisions when anticipating competitors’ next moves and defining actionable offensive or defensive counter-measures.

Our team encompasses a vast network of seasoned industry professionals and expert INOVIS analysts in over 50 countries. We specialize in providing actionable competitive intelligence and strategic insights by utilizing skilled interviewers and pre-qualified, high-quality primary sources to enhance open source intelligence findings. We take a thorough approach to help our clients detect early trends shaping their industry, improve their competitive position, and succeed in the markets spanning life sciences and information technology. Our comprehensive human-intel methods ensure that our clients receive precise, proactive, fully triangulated, and actionable results to inform their decision-making strategies.

BD Exec - Responsibilities and Focus

As a Business Development Executive at INOVIS Inc., your main job is to help us grow in the area of Competitive Intelligence for InfoTech and MedTech. You’ll look for new business opportunities and build valuable relationships with current and potential clients. Your role is key in connecting INOVIS with the market, making sure our CI services are known and appreciated by the right people. This involves reaching out proactively, studying the market, and presenting a professional image that reflects our company's 33-year robust track record of quality and innovation. It is mission-critical that you can demonstrate solid experience in consultative selling and cultivating long-term (CI) client partnerships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND FOCUS AREAS

Building and Maintaining the INOVIS Inc. Client Base

Business Development: Your primary goal will be to find net new business opportunities by searching the internet for prospects, attending relevant industry events, and networking with people - using your existing contacts and leveraging INOVIS’ existing target list of (pre)qualified IT clients - and asking for referrals.

  • Market Monitoring : Keeping an eye on industry trends, competitors, and client feedback helps both INOVIS and the client stay ahead and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Building Relationships : You’ll cultivate solid client CI partnerships; earning trust, understanding what clients need, and giving consistent value. Stay in touch, reply quickly, and share information proactively. Your aim will be to have INOVIS evolve into their go-to for competitive intelligence, strategic analysis, and counter-intelligence.
  • Negotiation and Closing Deals : You’ll negotiate contracts, write proposals (based on pre-existing INOVIS templates), and close agreements. A key part of this job is negotiating contracts that work well for both sides and closing deals that help both companies grow.

Client-Project Teamwork: Collaborating systematically with Account Directors and Project Managers is crucial to ensure projects run smoothly and efficiently on a global basis.

  • Presentations: You’ll work with the INOVIS Project Manager and Media Director to “spice up” proposals, final and interim deliverables and exec summaries, making use of creative, innovative formats, story telling techniques (if appropriate), and injecting journalistic editing techniques to effectively communicate key take-aways, implications analysis, and recommendations/action points.
  • Client Engagement: You’ll keep both client and INOVIS teams regularly informed through presentations and updates, so that all are on the same page.

In-House Activities : As a member of the INOVIS Inc. team, you’ll help to grow the INOVIS brand

  • Strategic input: You’ll work with senior managers to create plans that meet sales goals and support growth targets. Your ideas will help guide the company's future direction.
  • Media marketing : Help to create dynamic and regular content on the INOVIS website via white papers, digital newsletter (in collaboration with an existing ghost writer and other resources), regular thought-provoking opinion pieces, client case studies, and other relevant content.
  • Attend conferences and tradeshows for mainly BD purposes, as well as joining the INOVIS team at industry events like SCIP, including in the role of presenter and/or panel moderator to help build your visibility as the key go-to person for prospects and existing clients.

Work Environment and Travel: The job is largely remote, using tools like phone, video calls, and email. From time to time, travel to conferences or f2f client meetings will be required to support business growth.

Note: This description is not exhaustive. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support ever-evolving organizational goals.

KEY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

We're on the hunt for a driven professional who excels in communication and is eager to contribute to INOVIS' ongoing expansion in the Competitive Intelligence Technologies sector. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset, relevant experience, and a knack for cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders. Key will be to demonstrate a verifiable, successful and recent track record of consultative selling of intangibles (ideally CI, consulting and/or market research services) in mainly North America.

Our Ideal Candidate Profile

Field of Expertise

  • Has a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field
  • At least 10 years of experience in Information Technology or a similar, related industry
  • Well-connected in the InfoTech industry, especially with top executives, buyers of CI/consulting and – to a lesser extent – market research services
  • A proven track record in consultative selling
  • Understands market research and can spot new trends early
  • Knows about competitive intelligence, strategic planning, and B2B negotiations
  • Familiar with CRM systems

Communications skills

  • Good at talking and listening, with superior rhetorical skills, and the ability to develop lasting professional relationships (strategic partnering mindset as opposed to a short-term, transactional one)
  • Speed and thoroughness when responding to clients’ CI ad hoc requests and/or clarification questions
  • Demonstration of excellent English written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Familiar with presentation tools like PowerPoint
  • Comfortable with virtual communication apps like Zoom, MS Teams
  • Skilled in giving presentations, participating in strategic talks, and negotiating deals. Winning personality

Work routines

  • Has an entrepreneurial attitude and good business sense. Self-starter who can pick up immediately
  • Good at solving problems and adjusting to changing situations – flexibility is key.
  • Trusted by colleagues and clients for good communication and understanding.
  • Able to adapt to a fluid schedule that allows for adjustments based on project demands, prioritizing outcomes over rigid timeframes.
  • Comfortable working remotely.
  • Strong personal and business ethics as well as trustworthiness.

Location : Living in or near the San Francisco Bay Area is preferred but not required.
