The Clinic for Internal Medicine II, Gastroenterology at the University Hospital Würzburg is seeking a Bioinformatician/Software Engineer (m/f/d) as a PhD candidate or postdoc starting June 1, 2025. This position is initially temporary, with a high likelihood of extension based on performance and project needs.

Your Tasks

The Gustabor project focuses on the development of an AI-based platform that suggests individualised measures for taste disorders during tumour therapy. This project will create personalised AI-driven nutrition plans and evaluate specific interventions for chemotherapy-induced dysgeusia in clinical practice.
As a software engineer (m/f/d), you will play a vital role in advancing our research and creating innovative solutions, including:

  • Developing AI pipelines to analyze nutritional data and optimize recipes for patients with impaired taste.
  • Creating and maintaining web-based applications using Angular and Python.
  • Administering and maintaining project-related servers.
  • Developing AI applications with tools like PyTorch and LLMs.
  • Collaborating with nutrition and clinical experts to improve usability and application design.
  • Supporting scientific work, including planning, executing, and evaluating clinical studies with a digital focus as well as writing scientific publications.
Your Profile

Required:

  • Academic degree in life science, computer science or engineering (MSc or PhD).
  • Practical experience with data analysis, machine learning, and application development.
  • Proficiency in English (C1 level).
  • Experience in scientific research with proven track record of published work in peer-reviewed journals with a focus on medical applications.
  • Strong motivation, initiative, and teamwork orientation.
  • Residency in Germany to enable a quick start.

Optional:

  • German language skills (not mandatory).
