Santander Corporate & Investment Banking is looking for an Associate within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) DACH & Nordics team.

Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) is Santander’s global division that supports some of the world's largest corporate and institutional clients, offering customized services and value-added wholesale products to best meet their needs across worldwide.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Associate in the FIG DACH & Nordics team plays a vital role in supporting senior colleagues. They are integral in leading, developing, and executing complex business development activities across a range of services. These include syndicated and bilateral lending, capital markets, treasury management, and more. The associate is expected to collaborate on relationship management, transaction execution, financial modeling, risk analysis, and liaising with business partners across multiple domains.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Client Development: Assist senior colleagues in defining and implementing strategies for institutional client growth across DACH & Nordics, encompassing all bank products and services.
  • Client Coverage: Collaborate with senior colleagues to engage with clients up to C-Level, ensuring effective communication and relationship building.
  • Global Initiatives: Aid senior colleagues in spearheading global initiatives, ensuring synchronization with key clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Risk and Profitability Management: Manage risk exposure (including setting credit limits and observing Group Borrower Limit), oversee revenue, and maintain client profitability (RoRWA). Play an active role in the budgeting and client planning process within the specified perimeter.
  • Product and Process Knowledge: [Desirable] Have a clear understanding of financial market products and processes, including Credit & Rates, FX, SecLending & Repo, Structured Credit & Loans, Private Debt, and Balance Sheet activities. A grasp of Transaction Banking (Cash & Custody) and Private Wealth/Asset Management processes would be advantageous.
  • Process Management: Support seniors in supervising crucial processes such as ISDA, GMRA, GMSLA negotiation, M&A undertakings, Cash & Custody pitches, and ensuring KYC procedures are diligently followed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3-5 years of extensive relevant banking and sector experience, preferably with a Markets, DCM or Corporate Finance background.
  • In-depth experience advising clients on debt and capital management, market solutions and other strategic solutions.
  • Strong academic background/results and financial knowledge (accounting and company valuation) and understanding of financial statements.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to contribute your own ideas and work autonomously.
  • Capable of working under pressure and in a context of shifting priorities.
  • Understanding of compliance issues and regulatory requirements.
  • Good communication and presentation skills (verbal and written).
  • Attention to detail.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in business administration, economics or industrial engineering.
  • Strong academic track record.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • German and English fluent, Spanish preferable.
  • Working knowledge in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
